Director General of NAPTIP, Binta Adamu Bello, OON yesterday exposed the emerging antics of human saying “When deception, coercion, abuse of vulnerability, and exploitation are present, whether in a brothel, a factory, or behind a computer screen, it remains human trafficking” the Director She stated this at the occasion of the survivors’ engagement on the global scam centre crisis in collaboration with the British High Commission and Eden NGO, British High Commissioner’s residence, Maitama, Abuja.
The Director General, who was represented by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Mrs. Kehinde Akomolafe, stated that Young Nigerians are now being lured with promises of lucrative IT jobs, cryptocurrency trading, customer service roles, or digital marketing opportunities abroad. According to her, instead of the lucrative job and luxury lifestyle promised by the traffickers,” many find themselves in coercive environments where their passports are confiscated, their movements restricted, and they are forced to participate in online fraud schemes under threats, intimidation, and sometimes violence.”
“Their pathetic stories always trigger our response. Though we carry out Enforcement but with empathy so that our intervention can be effective.”
“As Director General of NAPTIP, I reaffirm that survivors are not criminals. They are victims of organized exploitation networks that operate across borders, exploiting digital platforms and weak migration systems.” She said.
