Governor Dikko Umaru Radda brought festive cheer and a message of unity to the Natsinta Army Barracks in Katsina on Thursday, where he commissioned 12 newly renovated family quarters and celebrated Christmas with Christian communities.
The upgraded blocks, located at the Corporal Below Quarters (CBQ), were remodeled to improve the living conditions of military families.
According to a press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Katsina State Governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, Governor Radda, while speaking at the event, praised the 17 Brigade for their unwavering commitment to securing lives and property across the state. He credited the relative peace in Katsina to the dedication of security personnel and the strong collaboration between the state government and security agencies.
“Our partnership with the armed forces has been instrumental in achieving the level of security we enjoy today,” the Governor said.
He also acknowledged the sacrifices made by military families, particularly the spouses who support their partners in service. “Without your strength and encouragement, the mission would be far more difficult,” he added.
As part of the Christmas celebration, Governor Radda donated ₦10 million to Christian families within the barracks, describing the gesture as a symbol of solidarity and goodwill.
He also offered heartfelt condolences to the families of fallen heroes who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Responding, Brigadier General B.O. Omopariola, Commander of the 17 Brigade, expressed gratitude to the Governor for funding the renovation project. He noted that the initiative aligns with the Nigerian Army’s transformation agenda under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff.
“This project enhances the welfare of our troops and their families. It reflects the Governor’s deep commitment to the military and his alignment with our vision of a professional and resilient force,” the Brigade Commander stated.
He urged the beneficiaries to take pride in the new facilities and maintain them responsibly, emphasizing the importance of ownership and discipline.
Following the commissioning, Governor Radda met with leaders of the Christian community in Katsina. The clerics commended his inclusive leadership and pledged to continue promoting peace and cooperation among all religious groups in the state.
The event drew attendance from top government officials, military officers, community leaders, and residents of the barracks all united in celebration and appreciation of the Governor’s gesture.
