The Gubernatorial aspirant of Lagos State under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Princess Abiodun Islamiyyatu, has reassured women of her commitment to implementing the United Nations 35% proportional representation for women at all levels of government if elected.
Briefing newsmen in Lagos, Princess Abiodun explained that her first legislative action under the ADC platform would be to sign into law the UN charter for women, youth, and people with special needs.
“The first thing we are going to do, when we take power, is to sign something called United Nations 35% proportional representation for women at all levels. We are going to sign that into law in Lagos State. With this, every institution must have 35% representation for women, people with disabilities, and also incorporate the young people,” she stated.
Princess Abiodun emphasized that women would be given proper training and empowerment opportunities to lift them out of poverty and protect them from social vices that often target vulnerable women and young minds.
She further revealed that her campaign has been deeply rooted in grassroots mobilization, visiting marketplaces and engaging directly with women to understand their challenges and how best to address them.
According to her, this approach ensures that policies are not just promises but solutions tailored to the real struggles of women in Lagos.
Princess Abiodun pledged to continue working closely with women at the community level, stressing that their voices and experiences are central to building a more inclusive and equitable Lagos State.
