The African Democratic Congress has appointed a political heavyweight and former Kaduna State Commissioner for Education as a member of the party’s constitution review committee.
This was contained in a letter dated January 8th, 2026 signed by the party’s national chairman, Senator David Mark.
The letter announced Prof. Bello’s selection as a Member of the ADC Constitution Review Committee; a prestigious role reserved for individuals of exceptional integrity and deep understanding of democratic governance.
The committee’s mandate was clear: to examine the party’s existing constitutional framework, propose amendments, and ensure that its structure upheld the principles of transparency, accountability, and internal democracy.
With Nigeria’s political landscape evolving rapidly, the ADC sought to align its constitution with both its founding ideals and current best democratic standards.
“Your tenure on the committee will take effect from January 8, 2026” the letter stated.
This appointment will enable him to lend his voice and intellect to shaping a more inclusive and effective political organization.
It would be recalled that Professor Bello resigned his appointment as Commissioner and Member of the Kaduna State Executive Council in July last year. However, he had remained with the ruling APC until he withdrew his membership and joined the coalition ADC on 7th January 2026.
For the ADC, Bello’s appointment signaled both a commitment to purposeful leadership as well as reaffirmation of it’s ardent desire to build a political system that serves the people and strengthen Nigeria’s democracy from within. For Prof. Bello, a seasoned academic and advocate for institutional reform, the appointment was more than an honor; it was a call to service.
