The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs has screened and clear Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf to assume office as Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
The screening exercise, conducted at the National Assembly, was presided over by the Chairman of the Committee, Yahaya Sani Bello.
During the session, the nominee answered questions from lawmakers on his qualifications, administrative capacity and strategic priorities for the commission.
The Committee members focused on his capacity to provide strategic direction, strengthen institutional governance and enhance operational efficiency within the commission.
The committee subsequently cleared Ambassador Yusuf after deliberations,and commended his qualifications and leadership profile. Members described him as suitably equipped to reposition the commission and restore stability to its operations.
The lawmakers urged the incoming chairman to prioritize institutional stability, improve coordination with key stakeholders and ensure a seamless framework for Hajj administration.
The committee also congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as a well-considered appointment, noting that the nomination reflects a commitment to strengthening the management of Hajj affairs in Nigeria.
The committee’s endorsement secured his nomination and now awaits confirmation by the full Senate after which Ambassador Yusuf will take charge as substantive NAHCON chairman.
