The National Secretary of the Abure-led Labour Party, Hon. Umar Ibrahim Mairakumi, has raised strong concerns about Nigeria’s democratic process, accusing the judiciary of contributing to the country’s electoral challenges. He lamented that lower courts often disregard the decisions and judgments of superior courts, thereby undermining justice and eroding public confidence in the system.
Speaking in Kaduna during his Eid El-Fitr goodwill message, Mairakumi urged Muslims to embrace the lessons of Ramadan by showing compassion, tolerance, and integrity. He emphasized that leaders must fear Allah and govern with sincerity, reminding them that accountability before God is inevitable.
Turning to politics, the Labour Party stalwart issued a rallying cry ahead of the 2027 general elections. He called on Nigerians to wield their voter cards wisely by electing credible leaders, stressing that the ruling APC cannot rig elections if citizens remain united and resolute in rejecting manipulation.
Mairakumi further advised voters not to allow financial inducements to sway their choices. He encouraged Nigerians to collect any money offered but still vote for leaders who will genuinely serve the people, insisting that “little monies should not buy the destiny of a nation.”
On the wave of defections by governors and lawmakers into the APC, Mairakumi dismissed the notion that such moves guarantee electoral victory. He argued that history has shown that the collective will of the people can overturn political structures, predicting that Nigerians burdened by economic hardship and insecurity will rise to defeat the ruling party.
“The defection of governors and lawmakers into APC will not guarantee victory for the ruling party because history will repeat itself. APC will be defeated by the collective will and resilience of the Nigerian people who have suffered economic hardship and security challenges,” he declared.
Mairakumi urged Nigerians to seize the opportunity of the next election to chart a new course for the nation.
