KIVTSD Provost showcases quality assurance model, credits Gov Uba Sani for support
The Kaduna State Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development, KIVTSD, received international recognition at the 3rd Annual Regional Conference of the Sub-Saharan Africa Skills and Apprenticeship Stakeholders Network, SASASNET, held in Abuja from June 2–4, 2026.
The Provost of KIVTSD, Alhaji Husaini Muhammad, was selected as a panelist on “Quality Assurance in Informal Apprenticeship,” where he shared Nigeria’s experience with delegates from across Africa. Discussions focused on standards, competency frameworks, assessment tools, and recognition mechanisms tailored to the informal economy.
Speaking during the panel, the Provost detailed KIVTSD’s approach to skills training through strict adherence to standards and competency-based assessment. He said the institute runs a tripartite instructor system comprising permanent/pensionable staff, contract retired skilled practitioners, and Mastercraft Persons, MCPs.
Training at KIVTSD targets candidates with or without formal education, with 80% practical sessions and 20% theory. Graduates are awarded Recognition of Prior Learning, RPL, Nigerian Skills Qualifications, NSQ, and other institute competency certificates.
The Provost told delegates that KIVTSD, with three campuses across Kaduna’s senatorial zones, is equipped with modern infrastructure, tools, and qualified instructors. The institute is positioned to train 32,000 learners annually across 14 trade areas.
He emphasized inclusiveness, noting strong female representation in all departments and a fair number of Persons With Disabilities among both learners and instructors.
The Provost attributed the institute’s successes to the “unwavering support” of Governor Uba Sani, CON. Delegates at the conference commended the Governor for his vision and commitment to empowering Kaduna youths with recognized and marketable skills.
SASASNET, formed by English and French-speaking sub-Saharan African countries, supports informal apprenticeship training and development. The network was launched in Abuja July 23–25, 2023, and held its second conference in Mombasa, Kenya, May 14–16, 2025.
This year’s event drew participants from many African countries like Malawi, Kenya, South Africa, Benin Republic, and development partners including the ILO and AU.
