In fulfillment of its commitment to improving healthcare and positively impacting the lives of Nigerians, NNPC Limited has commissioned and handed over three fully rehabilitated wards each with a 100-bed capacity to the National Orthopedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos.
The intervention, executed by the NNPC Foundation Ltd./Gte., the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of NNPC Limited, covered the rehabilitation and upgrade of Wards G, H, and J.
The project included installation of new beds, a central medical gas system to enhance patient care, replacement of roofing and ceilings, upgraded electrical and mechanical systems, and new vinyl flooring.
Before this intervention, the wards were in poor condition, limiting their use and constraining the hospital’s in-patient care capacity.
Speaking at the commissioning, Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari (represented by CFO Adedapo Segun), emphasized that NNPC’s concept of profitability goes beyond revenue, it includes the social impact of its initiatives. He noted that the rehabilitation project reflects NNPC’s pride in contributing to healthcare improvement.
Managing Director of NNPC Foundation, Emmanuella Arukwe, highlighted that the intervention strengthens a facility that has served Nigerians for decades, underscoring the Foundation’s role in delivering practical, life-improving projects aligned with national healthcare priorities.
Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Wakeel Lawal, expressed deep gratitude, stressing that the transformation represents not just rehabilitation but a renewal of hope.
The event was witnessed by NNPC Ltd.’s Executive Vice President, Business Services, Mrs. Sophia Mbakwe, alongside community and royal representatives. A commemorative plaque was unveiled to mark the occasion.
