The NNPC Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of the NNPC Limited, has donated and commissioned a state-of-the-art 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) System at the National Orthopaedic Hospital (NOH), Dala, Kano State, in a move aimed at strengthening diagnostic healthcare services and improving access to specialized medical care.
The advanced MRI machine, officially handed over during a ceremony held at the hospital premises in Kano on Thursday, is expected to significantly enhance the diagnosis and treatment of orthopaedic, neurological, trauma, musculoskeletal, and gynaecological conditions.
The intervention forms part of NNPC Ltd.’s broader commitment to improving healthcare delivery and strengthening medical infrastructure across Nigeria through strategic social investments.
Prior to the donation, patients requiring advanced MRI diagnostic services often faced the burden of travelling long distances, enduring lengthy waiting periods, and coping with high costs associated with accessing such critical medical services.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Bashir Bayo Ojulari, represented by the Managing Director of the NNPC Foundation, Emmanuella Arukwe, said the donation reflects the company’s determination to make meaningful and sustainable contributions to national development beyond the energy sector.
According to him, NNPC Limited remains committed to ensuring that its social investments create lasting impact and address critical societal needs.
“At NNPC Limited, we are intentional about ensuring that our social investments are impactful, sustainable, and beneficial to the communities we serve. Through the NNPC Foundation, we will continue to implement interventions that create measurable social value across Nigeria,” he stated.
He described the MRI project as both timely and necessary, noting that Nigeria’s healthcare sector continues to face significant challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, limited access to modern diagnostic equipment, and growing demand for specialized medical services.
Also speaking at the event, the Executive Vice President, Business Services, NNPC Ltd., Sophia Mbakwe, represented by the Executive Director, Programme Management at the NNPC Foundation, Rose Okonkwo, said the company’s vision extends beyond oil and gas production to improving the lives and well-being of Nigerians.
She emphasized that the intervention demonstrates NNPC Limited’s unwavering commitment to delivering sustainable and scalable social impact projects, particularly for underserved and vulnerable populations.
“Today’s event is a testament to our steadfast commitment to deliver measurable impacts and sustainable interventions to communities across Nigeria. Through this intervention, NNPC Limited aims to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve the quality of life of the people of Kano State, the North-West region, and indeed all Nigerians who depend on the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, for specialized medical care,” she said.
In his remarks, the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the State Commissioner for Health, Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, commended the NNPC Foundation for the intervention, describing it as a major milestone in improving healthcare services in the state and the wider region.
He noted that access to advanced diagnostic technology such as MRI systems would facilitate early and accurate diagnosis, leading to better treatment outcomes and enhanced patient care.
The Chief Medical Director of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, Isa Nurudeen, expressed profound appreciation to NNPC Ltd. for the donation, stating that the equipment would transform the hospital’s capacity to provide quality specialized healthcare services.
He said the MRI machine would not only improve diagnostic accuracy but also reduce the burden on patients who previously had to seek such services elsewhere.
The commissioning ceremony attracted representatives of NNPC Ltd., management and staff of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, government officials, healthcare professionals, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
The latest intervention underscores NNPC Foundation’s growing role in supporting healthcare development across Nigeria and aligns with national efforts to improve access to modern medical facilities and quality healthcare services for citizens.
