The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC Ltd, has signed six strategic gas agreements with key partners in a bid to drive industrial revitalisation and enhance Nigeria’s energy security.

The agreements were executed on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 25th NOG Energy Week in Abuja, the company announced.
This was contained in a press statement signed by Andy Odeh Chief corporate Communications officer for NNPCL and made available to Newsmen in Abuja.
According to NNPC Ltd, the deals include: a Memorandum of Understanding with Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited, ASCL; a Gas Sale Aggregation Agreement with ASCL; a Gas Supply Agreement with UTM FLNG; and three Network Entry Agreements with Chevron Nigeria Ltd, AGPC, and NNPC Exploration & Production Ltd, NEPL.
Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Engr. Bayo Bashir Ojulari, said the agreements underscore the company’s commitment to advancing the Federal Government’s gas-based industrialisation agenda.
“What we are witnessing today is not just about signing agreements. It is about igniting the engine of Nigeria’s industrialisation. Gas is the key. It is a source of revenue and profit. It is also the only product that can have that level of industrial impact on Nigeria, more than any other hydrocarbon,” Ojulari stated.
He added that the deals reflect NNPC Ltd’s commitment to transparency, efficiency, and a standardised framework for nationwide gas utilisation, which will unlock new supply capacity for the domestic market.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the agreement with Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited.
Under the MoU, NNPC Ltd and ASCL will extend collaboration beyond gas supply to include the production of raw materials for oil and gas pipes. This is expected to support critical infrastructure projects such as the Africa-Atlantic Gas Pipeline, AAGP, and the Escravos-Lagos Pipeline System 3, ELPS 3.
This was complemented by a 20-year Gas Sale and Aggregation Agreement between NNPC E&P Limited, the Gas Aggregation Company of Nigeria, GACN, and ASCL. The agreement provides for the supply of 3MMscf/d of firm contract volumes and 47MMscf/d of interruptible volumes to serve as feedstock for the power plant at the steel complex.
NNPC Ltd also took a major step towards commercialising Nigeria’s gas resources with a 15-year Wet Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement between the NNPC Ltd/Seplat Energy Producing Nigeria Unlimited Joint Venture and UTM FLNG Ltd.
Under the deal, the JV will supply 200MMscf/d of gas to the UTM Floating LNG project. NNPC said this will provide the long-term feedgas certainty needed to support financing and position the project for a Final Investment Decision in Q4 2026.
To further strengthen the domestic gas market, NNPC Ltd announced the migration of legacy interconnection agreements to the Nigerian Gas Transportation Network Code.
Network Entry Agreements were signed with Chevron Nigeria Limited, AGPC, and NEPL. The agreements will inject up to 800MMscf/d of natural gas into the domestic transportation network for power plants, gas-based industries and industrial clusters.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Gas, Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo; Minister of State for Petroleum, Oil, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri; Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Ms. Olu Verheijen; NUPRC Chief Executive, Mrs Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan; and NMDPRA Chief Executive, Engr. Rabiu Umar.
The 25th NOG Energy Week, themed “Advancing Energy Ambitions for Competitive & Resilient Economies,” continues this week with technical sessions and exhibitions focused on unlocking new partnerships for Africa’s energy growth.
