Senator Kawu Sumaila has called on the Senate to investigate how a controversial agency was included in the 2025 Appropriation Act.
Raising the issue under a matter of privilege, the lawmaker said there are only “two possible sources” for the allocation: the executive or the National Assembly.
He urged the Committees on Appropriations and Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to investigate, even as President Tinubu has ordered a separate executive probe.
“My concern is different. I want to know who legalized or facilitated the inclusion of the agency in the budget because that falls within our constitutional responsibility,” Sumaila said.
He noted that while the Senate did not debate the issue, raising it formally puts it on record.
“Accountability in the appropriation process is critical to sustaining public confidence in governance,” he added.
