The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, has entered a partnership with Byblos Travels and Tours Nigeria Limited to ease travel costs and logistics for its members across the country.
The agreement, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding signed in Abuja, will give SWAN members access to discounted domestic and international airfares, visa support, accommodation assistance and other travel benefits.

SWAN President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, described the deal as a turning point for the welfare of sports journalists.
“Anything that benefits our members, we are interested in it. After reviewing this agreement, I am confident it will help our members significantly,” he said.
Benjamin noted that the high cost of air travel and risks of road transport have prevented many members from covering major events.
“You can imagine members spending 13 to 14 hours on the road just to cover a match because they can’t afford a flight. Some don’t go at all,” he stated.

He expressed optimism that the partnership will boost coverage of major tournaments including the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico, the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Head of the Byblos delegation, Mr. Abubakar Nasrudeen, said the company will provide SWAN members with exclusive travel packages not available to the public.
“We are ready to support SWAN with airfares, visas and travel packages. Our goal is to make travel easier and more affordable for Nigerian sports journalists,” he said.

Abdulgafar Oladimeji, former Secretary of SWAN Kano Chapter who facilitated the deal, praised the current leadership for fostering unity and attracting partnerships.
“Today SWAN speaks with one voice. Peace and stability are worth billions to any organisation, and this leadership has created an environment for growth,” he said.
