The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kaduna State Chapter, has voiced strong concerns over what it describes as a sustained campaign of politically motivated actions targeting former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and other opposition figures across the state.
At a press briefing in Kaduna, led by Professor Mohammed Sani Bello (Mainan Zazzau), the party alleged that anti-corruption and security agencies—including the ICPC, EFCC, and DSS—are being drawn into matters with clear political undertones. According to the ADC, this has created a perception of selective enforcement, raising fears that institutions meant to uphold justice are being compromised by partisan interests.
Professor Bello warned that if such practices continue unchecked, they could erode public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic institutions. He stressed that justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done, and cautioned against turning agencies of state into instruments of political contest.
The ADC also condemned what it described as a widening clampdown on opposition voices, citing interference in party structures, factional leadership disputes, and destabilizing litigations. The party argued that these distractions come at a time when the people of Kaduna State are grappling with pressing socio-economic challenges, including unemployment, insecurity, and rising living costs.
In its statement, the ADC demanded the immediate release of all individuals it claims are unlawfully detained. It insisted that any politically linked arrests must be subjected to transparent, fair, and timely legal proceedings, in line with constitutional guarantees of human rights and due process.
Those present at the press briefing include the national Vice chairman northwest of ADC, Mallam Jafaru Sani, the senator representing Zone 1, Senator Khalid Soba, Hon. Isa Ashiru and Alhaji Shuaibu Mikati and Bashir Saidu among others.
The party’s intervention adds to growing debate over the role of Nigeria’s institutions in political affairs, and whether their actions are strengthening or undermining democratic governance.
