The African Democratic Congress in Zamfara State has unanimously endorsed Atiku Abubakar as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, declaring that party members would be prepared to “sue” the Waziri Adamawa should he decline to contest.
The endorsement was made during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held on Saturday at the International Conference Hall in GRA Gusau, attended by State Executive Members, National Executive representatives from the state, and party candidates for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly positions.
In a communique issued after the meeting, stakeholders said the decision followed extensive deliberations on the nation’s political and economic challenges, stressing the urgent need for experienced and visionary leadership capable of restoring hope, unity, security and prosperity in the country.
The party described Atiku Abubakar as one of Nigeria’s most experienced democrats and a detribalised statesman with a longstanding commitment to democratic governance, economic reforms and national development.
According to the stakeholders, the former vice president possesses the leadership qualities, administrative experience and national outlook required to steer Nigeria toward recovery and stability.
The meeting was marked by strong expressions of confidence in Atiku’s leadership capacity, with participants insisting that the current state of the nation demands his experience, courage and sense of national responsibility.
“We will sue the Wazirin Adamawa if he refuses to contest,” some participants reportedly declared during the meeting, underscoring the level of support and enthusiasm surrounding his possible candidacy.
The stakeholders further observed that Nigerians were increasingly demanding transparent leadership and credible democratic processes ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking during the meeting, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, popularly known as “Doctor,” a former APC Zamfara Central Coordinator for the 2023 Presidential Election, said the circumstances and alleged electoral manipulations that affected the outcome of the last presidential election in the state would not reoccur in 2027.
He expressed confidence that voters would freely and decisively support credible leadership in the next election cycle.
The ADC Zamfara chapter also pledged total commitment and unwavering support toward the success of Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition, vowing to intensify grassroots mobilisation across all local governments, wards and polling units in the state.
The party called on political stakeholders, youth groups, women organisations, civil society groups and the general public to rally behind what it described as a vision of national rescue, inclusive development, security, justice and economic prosperity represented by Atiku’s candidacy.
The chapter reaffirmed its commitment to party unity, discipline, grassroots mobilisation and issue-based political engagement as preparations intensify toward the 2027 general elections.
