The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has been commended for his deliberate efforts in uplifting the standard of the game of volleyball in Nigeria.
A foreign based player, AbdulQuadri Jayeola who plies his trade at Al-Wasl Volleyball Club UAE, gave the commendation, while fielding questions from newsmen on the sidelines of the ongoing Comptroller General of Customs Volleyball Premier League ongoing at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Abuja on Friday.
“The league is far much better compared to years back. All the players are well taken care of and the standards are high. The players are competing.
“They are all thanking the, CG of Customs for the work he’s doing.
So I think it’s much better than before,” he said.
When asked to compare the standard of play and quality of talents on display, he said that he is impressed by what he is witnessing.
“There are a lot of improvements in the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, so I’m really excited to be here once again after three years,” he said.
When asked to compare Nigerian league with others, he said that with the improvements he has seen, things can only get better.
“I mean, there is still a lot of way for us to go, but I believe that we are going to reach there very soon.
“I’ve seen a lot of players here that I believe if they go outside Nigeria, I believe they’re going to play very, very well,” he submitted.
AbdulQuadri who is featuring at the 2026 Volleyball Premier League for the Nigerian Customs team, advised younger players wishing to go professional, to first of all, love the game.
“I think the first thing is they should love what they want to do because when I started playing, I loved volleyball. So I think the first message is they should love what they want to do, then from there, they are going to enjoy the game,” he advised.
